Jenni's Noodle House is the classic story of the humble little restaurant that grew popular, became a chain and sold out. Oh, and their food sucks.

Allow me to offer a differing view against the popular consensus.

When Jenni's had their restaurant at old St. Emmanuel St., they were no different. They succeeded because they allowed so many "gwai los" like myself an opportunity to experience soba, vermicelli, rolls and those things my Asian friends take advantage of that I didn't have the guts to try. It's not that I didn't like Asian food, it's just intimidating if you're not Chinese or Vietnamese to go to Bellaire and order at a place where everyone stares at you with an evil eye.

Jenni's is about the introduction to a new world.

I love names like "Disco Dumplings", "Super Fried Rice", "Uptown Lauren" and "Angry Udon". They are names I can easily remember and pronounce. They are fun. So what if Jenni's Noodle House is the Fisher Price of Vietnamese noodle restaurants? It helped me.

Now that I've graduated and moved on to actual noodle houses in Bellaire, I am still quite fond of Jenni's and go there occasionally. I recognize the "American-ness" of Jenni's Noodle House, but I don't see that as a problem. Why does something have to be "authentic" to be good? Even after the Bellaire experiences, I'm still in love with her noodles. They're flavorful and filling. And to be honest, I just like the *fun* of the Jenni Noodle Houses. They have a staff that cares and are friendly to everyone. They have a wonderful sense of humor.

This will probably be the only awesome review of Jenni's Noodle House (I picked the Post Oak location to review but it's a random pick. I love all of them). I know how people feel about it and will probably dump it because they're a franchise for gwai los like me. But look, Jenni's started on humble roots. They're not a creation of a multi-million corporation like P.F. Chang's. I really wish people would stop lumping Jenni's into that category.

If they Asian community won't accept them, then the gwai lo community, I guess, will accept them. I'll be the president and founder of that club. Jenni's rock. I hope they franchise even more and annoy the hell out of everyone who hates on them. I hope they keep naming their food quirky American names, something like "Kung Fu Pow Chicken Noodles" or "Bruce Lee Pho Real".

I'm giving them an A+ because I don't have a problem with them and I won't join in the haterade. Keep on rocking, Jenni. Build your empire of Logan lemonade stands and Jenni's Noodle Crew. I will always love Jenni's Noodle House!
